With the excitement of wanting to get rolling with your new toy it’s easy to omit the fact that certain licencing laws in Ontario and other jurisdictions may apply to your RV. As RV owners, it is up to you to be sure you meet all legal requirements to operate your new RV. Our instructors are fully certified and have years of experience to help you fully comprehend all aspects of RV inspections and defensive driving. The chart below will help you to determine the correct licence required to operate your RV.
Class D licence requirement for: A motor vehicle exceeding 11,000 Kilograms gross weight or registered gross weight or combination provided the towed vehicle is not over 4,600 kilograms
- If your RV weighs less than 11,000Kgs with NO air brakes……………G Licence
- If your RV weighs more than 11,000Kgs with NO air brakes…………….D Licence
- If your RV weighs more than 11,000Kgs with air brakes………………….DZ Licence
Ontario RV Licence classes are based on the actual gross weight of the unit and not the actual length of the RV. This is a common misconception.
Please be advised when determining the actual weight of your RV you must have it fully loaded with all vacation gear and a full tank of fuel.
